early years

I have many fond memories of JFK since we were the first class to graduate from being in the building for 4 years. I remember tripping over the workmen in the halls freshman year. I remember student council and our freshmen class voting as a block thus establishing many traditions. I remember Choir and the trips to the Museum of Science & Industry every December, I remember cheering on top of the dugout at Wrigley field when our baseball team lost the city championship 1-0 on a first inning sacrifice fly and returning to Comiskey Park and soundly defeating the other team to win the City Championship for our senior year. This may have been the first championship trophy in the trophy case. I remember the bus rides to the various football, basketball and baseball games ( 2 cheerleaders and 1 teacher per bus) and cheering all the way. I remember the library courtyard that no longer exists, the up only, down only stairways, the portables, the fall riots, spring walk-outs. I remember singing the school song and the words were written by my English teacher. Our senior class trip was to Washington, D.C. We were so proud to walk around DC wearing our school sweaters. I received a great education at JFK, and went on to the U of I. Mr.Ferganus, Mr. Butler, Mr. Schneider, Mr. Cozzolino you were my favorites.
