The Department of College and Career Preparation at Kennedy HS provides school officials, parents/guardians and students with college fair/reception information as well as scholarship opportunities. Be sure to read the description for each listing carefully. Additional scholarships will be added as they become available.

Golden AppleScholars Program
Nomination Deadline: November 30th

The purpose of the Golden Apple Scholars program is to recruit talented high school students who want to become teachers. Scholars (if accepted) agree to teach for five years in an Illinois school of need. The total financial assistance package is $23,000. To receive applications, students must be nominated by a teacher, counselor, principal, or other adult non-family member, or self-nominated. Students should also have at lease 17 on the ACT. World Sport Chicago Junior Students Only
Deadline: November 30, 2009

High School juniors who live and study in Chicago and have participated in an Olympic/Paralympic sport for two seasons in the last three years may be eligible to receive a $10,000 (annually) college scholarship. Athletes of all levels are encouraged to apply. Fifty-six (56) students will be chosen to become WSC Scholars and participate in a mentoring program that encourages academic and personal success during the college application process.

Hispanic Heritage Foundation Application

The Hispanic Heritage Foundation and Colgate-Palmolive are happy to announce a new and exciting opportunity for you to share with your Hispanic students. To apply students will need to log on to: www.colgate.com/hazlau and submit a short essay (500 words or less on the following topic: How do you think education can impact the Heritage of Hispanic generations to come. The grand Prize winner will win $10,000 Education Grant, 15 other students will also have the opportunity to win $1,000 each.


Lincolnland Legends
Deadline: December 1, 2009

Lincolnland Legends is a program form Illinois Dollars for Scholars designed to engage Illinois students in honoring people who inspire and motive them and provide scholarships to Illinois students. Any current high school junior or senior may nominate by essay someone for special recognition. Nominees must be still living and must have born in, have lived in, or currently live in the student's Congressional District in Illinois. In honor of Abraham Lincoln, the Lincolnland Legends nominees should reflect the characteristics that Lincoln demonstrated as one of our nation's greatest leaders.

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
Applications will be available: December 1, 2009

Students must be residents of the City of Chicago; they must be African -American students attending a CPS school (see the list); maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5., be enrolled as a graduating high school student; is not a relative of a member of Delta Sigma Theta; must demonstrate leadership skills; and perform public service in the community. Only students applying to a four-year accredited university and pursuing work leading to an initial baccalaureate degree or its equivalent are eligible.

KFC Colonel's Scholars

KFC Colonel's Scholars is looking for high school seniors with financial need and an entrepreneurial spirit to quality for the KFC Colonel's Scholars Program. To qualify, graduating high school seniors must: Earn a minimum high school cumulative GPA of 2.75, Enroll in a public college or university within their state of legal residence, Plan to pursue a bachelor's degree, Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident & Demonstrate financial need. Awards up to $20,000 for tuition, fees, textbooks, room and board.

Allows one (1) student nomination per school. The Comcast Scholarship is provided to students with a minimum 2.8 GPA who demonstrate a strong commitment to community and exhibit excellent leadership skills through school activities or work experience. Only Principals and Counselors can nominate a student. Comcast mails the nomination packets directly to the school addressed to the Principal. Comcast will not accept applications sent from a student. Award Amount $1,000 one-time award.

Gates Millennium Scholars Program
Application Deadline: January 11, 2010

The GMS program selects one thousand students per year as Gates Millennium Scholars. The scholarships supports individual student need, and can be renewed for a total of five years of undergraduate study. The award is also renewable for graduate study in the fields of public health, mathematics, science, computer science, engineering, education, and library science. Students are eligible to be considered for a GMS scholarship if they: are African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American or Hispanic American; are a citizen, legal permanent resident or national of the United States; have attained a cumulative GPA of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale (unweighted); will be entering a U.S. accredited college/university as a full-time, degree-seeking freshman in the fall of 2010; have demonstrated leadership abilities through participation in community service, extracurricular or other activities; and meet the Federal Pell Grant eligibility criteria (for more information visit www.fafsa.edu.gov); have completed and submitted all three required forms (Nominee Personal Information Form), Nominator Form, and recommender Form) by the deadline. The Princeton Prize in Race Relations

Each year the Princeton Prize in Race Relations, a program sponsored by Princeton University, seeks to honor students in grades 9-12 who are doing outstanding work in their schools or communities to advance the cause of race relations. Princeton University annually sponsors an annual awrds program for high school students-the Princeton Prize in Race Relations. Appliation postmarted by January 31 will be eligible for prizes-including cash awards up to $1,000 for particulary noteworthy work. If you are a high school student involved in an activity that is helping to improve race relations in your school or community, we want to hear from you. Tuskegee Airmen National Scholarship Foundation

Each year the Tuskegee Airmen Scholarship Foundation grants scholarships awards to deserving young men and women. Forty (40) awards of $1,500 will be available and are not renewable. One $20,000 award will be presented to a scholar who can demonstrate a sincere aptitude for and pursuit of a career in aviation, aerospace technology or research. Applicants must be students of accredited high school who have graduated or will graduate in the school year 2009-2010. Additionally, applying students must have a GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Application deadline is February 1, 2010.

Paramount Tall Club of Chicago (PTC) and Tall Club International (TCI) Scholarships
Deadline: Applications must be postmarked no later than Feb 5, 2010


Paramont Tall Club of Chicago (PTC) through the Paramount Foundation awards one $750 scholarship to a graduating high school senior who lives in the Chicagoland area and meets the height requirements of the club. The PTC scholarship is to be used toward tuition expenses and will be paid directly to the college or university that the recipient will attend. To apply for local PTC scholarship, a student must meet our minimum height requirements of 5'10' for females and 6'2 for males, be a graduating high school senior, and plan to attend either a 2-year or 4-year college this fall. 2010 CBAI Foundation for Community Banking
Annual Scholarship Program
Deadline Application: Noon on Monday, February 8, 2010


The CBAI Foundation for Community Banking provides scholarship funds for top high school senior essays statewide. The total scholarship awards this year by the Foundation is $16,500. These scholarship awards help deserving students highlight the importance of community banking to the local economy. Students could win up to $4,000 for higher education.

Judges will select the top essays statewide written by high school seniors that best capture the following theme: What I like most about my community bank. Judges will be looking for an understanding of what a community bank is and its role in the local economy. The essay should emphasize the philosophy of community banking, but make no reference to a specific bank, Banker, nor city.
Amount Awarded: $4,000

Chicago Chapter (EAP)-The Chicago Chapter of Tuskegee Airmen, Inc. will provide awards to qualified high school seniors who will attend an accredited institution as a full-time student the fall of the succeeding school year. The following criteria must be met: High school graduation in the spring of the current school year; cumulative GPA of 3.0 (4.0 scale); and ACT composite of 18 or higher and/or SAT equivalent. Financial awards of $1,000 or $1,500 will be granted to those students who demonstrate the qualities of the 15,000 African Americans who received aviation training at Tuskegee Alabama from 1941-1948. Awards dollar scholarships covering the educational expenses required to attend community colleges.
